Individual, group, and family therapy sessions help you learn about yourself and develop the core skills you need for lifelong recovery.

Individual Therapy

We assign each patient a dedicated therapist who facilities focused personal therapy sessions. The frequency, duration, and issues addressed during therapy are based on specific needs determined upon intake and assessment. Together, a therapist and a patient create a robust and productive therapeutic alliance, help the patient identify and address challenge areas, and begin redirecting and resolving any self-defeating or life-interrupting thoughts, behaviors, or patterns of thought and behavior.

When a therapist and a patient identify the causes of psychiatric and/or addiction issues, they work to replace the old, negative patterns of thought and maladaptive coping mechanisms with new, productive and positive ones in an effective, methodical, and self-reinforcing manner. As patients practice these new tools and experiences success, they develop the self-esteem and self-efficacy necessary for optimal health and recovery.

Our full range of psychiatric, pharmacological, and ancillary services include, but are not limited to:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT)
  • Stellate ganglion block for trauma
  • Pharmaceutical therapies
  • Solution-focused therapies
  • Biofeedback
  • Experiential therapies
  • EMDR (eye movement and desensitization reprocessing)
  • Nutrition training and coaching
  • Yoga, exercise, and gym membership
  • Mindfulness and meditation
  • Acupuncture (upon request)

Group Therapy

When clients participate in the group therapy process, they identify with one another and learn they’re not alone. They form bonds of trust, work out differences, and learn to establish, maintain, and nurture healthy and lasting relationships. Things patients struggle with in isolation look different when they learn – maybe for the first time – that others have struggled with those same issues. Obstacles that feel insurmountable lose their power, and patients realize that with the right support, they can change, too.

Group therapy may include a combination of some, but not all, of the following clinical and educational topics:

  • Relapse Prevention
  • Grief and Loss
  • Trauma
  • The Science of Addiction
  • The Science of Recovery
  • Codependency
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Anger Management
  • Meditation
  • Relationships
  • Setting Healthy Boundaries
  • Positive Communication
  • Trigger Identification/Management
  • Coping Skills
  • Processing Guilt and Shame
  • Understanding Denial
  • Hope and Recovery
  • Acceptance and Recovery
  • Spirituality
  • Seeking Safety

With the guidance of skilled clinician facilitators, group therapy challenges patients to develop mature emotional habits by teaching new skills and providing a safe place to practice them, which promotes long-term self-efficacy and confidence.

Family Therapy

Evidence shows that when family and important loved ones participate in the treatment process, outcomes improve. In some cases, family and loved ones often learn they need counselling and therapy, too. We champion the needs of the individual and the family and address everyone’s unique level of need in a caring an inclusive manner. Our goal with family involvement in treatment is to restore trust and understanding in relationships, promote heathy, productive communication, reduce conflict, and restore harmony to the home and family.

Family therapy workshops include but are not limited to the following topics:

  • Communicating effectively
  • Setting boundaries
  • Identifying and unlearning dysfunctional habits
  • Breaking the cycle of co-dependency and enabling
  • Creating new patterns of trust
  • Training to live independently and/or cooperatively

We host regular Family Weekends, with therapist-led workshops that give clients a safe time and space to reconnect and reintegrate with their families. This carefully planned and controlled setting provides patients and their families an opportunity to celebrate treatment progress and learn how to make it last after the official treatment program is complete.

Psychiatry at CCI

Exclusive Psychiatric Team

Our psychiatrists are full-time, on-call employees available to our clients at any hour of the day or night.

This is not typical in mental health treatment: most treatment centers subcontract psychiatrists and other treatment professionals to complete their clinical staff.

In those situations, psychiatrists run the risk of getting spread too thin, which can impair the therapeutic alliance and degrade the overall quality of psychiatric support.

Our psychiatrists work for CCI only. That means they have the bandwidth to focus on you, without the distractions of a private practice or responsibility for patients at other locations. Our psychiatrists:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments to ensure you receive an accurate diagnosis, which is essential for appropriate treatment matching and designing an effective individual treatment plan.
  • Learn everything they can about your psychiatric, medical, treatment, and family history. Details are critical, and sometimes what may seem minor to you – or something a previous provider may have missed – can make significant difference in arriving at an accurate diagnosis and developing an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Review your diagnosis and clinical needs to determine your need for medication. During medical school, psychiatrists undergo intensive coursework in chemistry, biology, pharmacology, and human physiology to learn how medication affects the human body, understand how medications interact – positively or negatively – with one another, and the mechanisms whereby medication can improve psychiatric symptoms.
  • Apply their specialized training and knowledge to prescribe the appropriate medication when necessary, monitor that medication for any adverse effects, monitor that medication in relation to your treatment progress, and adjust dosage or change medication depending on what they observe and what you and your clinical team report.

The intentional, structured, progressive, phase-based approach we employ at CCI leverages the important gains made during individual, group, and family therapy sessions to provide comprehensive, integrated treatment for the whole person. Intensive, personal work on individual issues and issues with family and social relationships leads to knowledge and insight that improves outcomes. Combined with expert medication management and medical monitoring by our team of expert psychiatrists, CCI offers the highest quality therapeutic support available for co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders.
