Clear Answers to Important Questions…
How do I know where I’m going to get the best treatment?
There are many medical and psychiatric services that have the capacity to treat co-occurring conditions and related illnesses, but Crownview Co-Occurring Institute is one of the very few to develop and staff a comprehensive program to effectively deal with the full and often complicated range of conditions you may be struggling with. Our experienced, empathetic staff is always aware of the “big picture,” and works together closely with you and your family to provide not only the best medical care but the clearest path forward to help you create a stable, healthy life. That’s always the bottom line, isn’t it?
What does “co-occurring condition” really mean?
When the stresses of mental illness, whether PTSD, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, overwhelm a person’s capacity to cope, a common pattern is to turn to alcohol, drugs, or another addictive behaviors in an attempt to lessen (or deaden) the suffering. That, of course, gives at most only short-term relief, and always at an ever-mounting cost of damaged lives, spiraling towards even more serious risks to relationships, career, health and even life itself. At CCI we treat both illnesses – the underlying psychiatric condition and the addiction – at the same time, with overlapping therapies that help turn the client away from self-destructive behaviors and towards resilient, positive, and increasingly self-confident ways of coping.
Can my condition be cured?
“Cure” is a word we intuitively reach for, yet can remain elusive. Many forms of mental illness are rooted in factors, such as genetics, that cannot be permanently altered. Some addictions likewise can easily become a recurring pattern. At CCI we strive always to help our clients reach and maintain their optimum level of mental health, providing the resources and developing the life skills that will give them the best chance at long-term success. Ultimately, of course, it is the client’s family and support group – and of course the client themself – that will create the network of good communication, knowledgeable feedback and bonds of trust that helps make lasting change a reality.
How much freedom will I have to make choices in my own therapy?
This is determined by a number of factors – including your readiness for grasping and dealing with the totality of your condition. Ideally, the healthy interests and personal strengths of each client are a key part of a successful therapy strategy, and are integrated into your individualized plan after careful consultation.
What are the best ways I can help my own cause?
Coming to terms, honestly yet hopefully, with the realities of your condition. Healing is a form of change, sometimes dramatic, and requires not only honesty but courage, and an openness to those around you – both professional therapists and supportive family. Our initial task is building trust, and that is only possible when it is offered from both sides. Also, a genuine desire to change is required, and a willingness to face the hard challenges that come with freeing yourself from addictive and self-destructive patterns of behavior.
What about 12-step and similar programs?
We intentionally integrate 12-step or similar proven addiction programs into your therapy, and help build the commitment and self discipline necessary for these programs to be effective. They are often a key component of the comprehensive strategy we design for your recovery. Learning how to integrate into 12-step communities for support will enable you to more easily connect with similar groups wherever you go.
What about my legal problems? Does CCI help there?
We realize, in a non-judgmental way, that co-occurring conditions frequently bring legal or even criminal consequences. Dealing with these realities in a clear-headed, responsible way can be a critical element of your recovery. Our therapy team can often provide the counseling and expert guidance needed to deal constructively with these matters. Coordinating with court and probation systems, and the lawyers who work within these systems, requires a set of skills practiced daily by the CCI case management team.
I have nowhere to stay. Where am I going to live during my treatment?
CCI has designed a housing program uniquely adapted for the needs of clients with co-occurring conditions: Solutions in Recovery. Providing structured, secure 24-hour housing, Solutions in Recovery is a model of “wrap-around” services that creates an environment that optimizes the advantages needed for genuine recovery. We offer both short-term and long-term housing, as well as a range of inpatient and outpatient programs. We are glad to discuss your individual situation in detail. Click on this link to learn more.
