We’ve referred several patients from Baja Rehab to Crownview—four in total who came to us in really bad shape. After stabilizing with us, they needed a higher level of mental health care, and Crownview was the perfect fit. Each one of them is now thriving and continuing their recovery journey with the support they truly needed. The facility is beautiful, the staff are knowledgeable and genuinely caring, and the level of care they provide is top-tier. We’re grateful to have such a strong clinical partner we can trust with our most complex cases.

I am pleased to share that Crownview Co-Occurring Institute (CCI) and Experience Structured Living (ESL) gave us our son back. For several years, a heavy cannabis addiction severely exacerbated his schizo-affective disorder. After a 5150/5250/5270, we were able to get him to CCI where he participated in PHP, then IOP, and then, since he had improved, OP care. He improved a lot with intensive drug therapy under close psychiatric and medical supervision. The individual and group therapy sessions helped him get back on track towards getting his life back. The psychologists there were compassionate and caring and engaged with him from the first days. The case managers were all very supportive in their oversight and coaching. The housing is modest, but clean and comfortable. ESL is the mental health OP housing connected to CCI, so our son was able to transition seamlessly to sober living with enough continuity of care and environment that it was not disruptive at all. The support staff there continued to work with him to remain compliant with his medication and sobriety while helping him find and keep a part-time job and do volunteer work locally. He has now been sober and compliant for 15 months. He is again good company and welcome in our home. He is on his way to successful independence. I recommend CCI and ESL very highly for the wonderful work they do.

My son has been with Crownview for eight months and they have done an excellent job with him. He is a very, very tough case and you never know what will bring tomorrow but so far he has made a significant comeback. The staff are responsive and care about families - the opposite of many hospitals. They do not have problems responding at odd hours/days. I am a hard person to please (skeptic who has seen it all) and my experience with them has been excellent. I recommend them without hesitation and you are welcome to contact me directly or through Crownview if you like.

Crownview is the type of place that welcomes you from various approaches, narrowing it down to an exact fit. Crownview is the place where, no matter who you are and what you do for a living, you feel as if you are exactly where you need to be. Crownview is a place that will mold itself around you until they know your patterns better than yourself. The notion that how much you put in is what you get out is not defined here. They go above and beyond that. Crownview is better described as...how much you want to grow and change; it is a matter of how much you are ready to let go of your old narrative. This is the place. They take the time. And they sometimes have to make hard decisions, but always with the awareness of everyone in mind. And, if I know anything... I know that they try over and over. Despite mistakes, despite push and pull, and despite the lifelong convincing that nobody else cares. -Tisza Noel

My overall experience bypassed a lot of my expectations. I reached out, was called immediately and all my questions were answered. The staff shows genuine compassion for clients. I felt safe, as if I was at home getting the treatment. All of my needs were met. I'm beyond grateful for the experience and the help to a better life.

The staff really makes this place shine. And with the many different modalities used, it’s been a God send for me for my mental health to heal and to get back to reality. Crownview has been outstanding as a treatment center. And all the staff will be missed.

Understanding Alcohol Use Disorder and When to Seek Help
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) occurs when drinking habits lead to physical dependence, emotional distress, and loss of control. Signs of AUD may include increased tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, or difficulty managing responsibilities without alcohol.
If you’ve tried cutting back and can’t, or if alcohol use is affecting your work, relationships, or mood, professional alcohol addiction treatment in San Diego can help you break the cycle safely and effectively.
Prevalence of Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Use Disorder
Alcohol is everywhere in our culture, but is it really a problem?
Of the more than half of American adults who drink alcohol, 17% binge drink (four or more drinks in for women, five or more drinks for men on occasion) while 6% drink heavily (eight or more drinks for women, fifteen or more drinks in a week). However, binge drinking isn’t the same as being dependent on or addicted to alcohol.
Ten percent of Americans over the age of 12 have alcohol use disorder.
Encouragingly, Gallup shows a consecutive decline in Americans’ drinking habits. The percentage of American adults who say they consume alcohol has fallen to an all-time low: just 54%.
Alcohol Addiction, Alcohol Use Disorder, and Co-Occurring Disorders
Evidence shows that people with alcohol addiction/alcohol use disorder also experience high rates of co-occurring mental health disorders. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAA) indicates that, among people with alcohol use disorder, the most common co-occurring disorders are:
- Depressive disorders: The co-occurrence of MDD and AUD ranges from 27% to 40%.
- Trauma-related disorders, including PTSD: About 15% to 30% of people with PTSD have co-occurring AUD, with rates even higher among military personnel and veterans, reaching up to 60%.
The connection between mental health and alcohol use disorder is complex and deeply intertwined. Many people turn to alcohol as a way to cope with symptoms of depression, anxiety, or trauma, while excessive drinking can, in turn, worsen these same conditions. There is also a connection between AUD and suicide risk .
The cyclical relationship between alcohol and mental health disorders highlights the importance of treating both at the same time. That’s why alcohol addiction treatment in San Diego addresses emotional, psychological, and behavioral factors. We’re here to help individuals build healthier coping strategies, reduce relapse risk, and achieve lasting recovery.
